Job Summary
The human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with HR management. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, recruitment/employment, and affirmative.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Payroll:
- Compile, enter and monitor payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, and benefit deductions.
- Monitors tardy and absenteeism reports and ensures proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive tardiness or absenteeism problems.
- Contact various department supervisors for any missed times.
- Process weekly transfer of payroll data to payroll vendor.
- Transfers 401(k) contributions to ensure compliance.
- Compile internal management reports from payroll system software.
Benefit Administration:
- Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans.
- Coordinates with Broker to review benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation, or changes.
- Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process.
- Verifies benefit billing accuracy and processes for payment.
- Coordinates with COBRA vendor to ensure timely and compliant processing.
Compensation/Performance Management:
- Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
Recruitment/ Personnel:
- Extends verbal and written contingent job offers.
- Conducts orientation of new employees.
- Follows up with the related clerical aspects of employment, such as completing health, employment, and insurance forms, notifying the department of employee’s starting date, and registering new hires with NYS DOL.
- Completes unemployment claims.
- Maintains employee personnel files.
- Prepares and distributes performance review forms, monitors timeliness of performance appraisal process.
- Responds to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Manages progressive counseling, performance management issues, and terminations.
- Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
- Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
Non-essential Duties
- Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.
- Deposits checks for AR and takes deposit to bank when needed.

Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent years of experience.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resource programs.
- Human resource experience in manufacturing.
- 3-5 years of HR generalist experience.
